Network Server
A network server can be simple or complicated and serve
many purposes. The simplest of servers can operate within a home. In
this case, one computer serves as a server and others access it through
the network.
For a small to midsize business more complex network server needs must
be addressed. Since many computers need to access it at once for critical
business needs, the server must use multiple hard drives to prevent
data loss in case one of the hard drives fails. The server also has
hot-swappable hard drives and power supplies. This means that if one
fails it can be replaced on the fly.
With a centralized network server everyone in the office can gain access
to network resources with increased efficiency. A network server provides
centralized data storage, printer resources, and fax services. Also,
since more than one computer utilizes the server, note that virus management
is essential.
