Private Server

A private server can mean more than one thing depending upon the context.
A private server in the world of gaming is also known as a server emulator. The technology was developed by gamers who wanted to run games off their own servers. Since the software was proprietary gamers developed a means to clone the gaming companies’ server functionality.

A private server can also refer to a server owned and maintained by a consumer or business. Many vendors sell servers directly to businesses and these businesses have their own in-house IT department to manage them. A private server can be used for e-mail, application sharing, printer sharing etc.

Even within the context of outsourcing the term private server has its own meaning. Usually when a business outsources its server needs its data and applications are placed in the same physical server that other companies share. However, a company can request to have its own private server dedicated to its needs.
