Any IT administrator must learn the different definitions for the term virtual server. The same holds true for upper level IT management who must negotiate contracts and make decisions for an enterprise. Here are some examples of definitions for a virtual server in the context of technology

Microsoft has a brand of virtual server. This is a commercial product produced by Microsoft based on a specific technology. More information can be found about it at the Microsoft Web site. Microsoft is constantly trying to expand its business to eliminate competition.

The term virtual server can also refer to a method of hosting that uses virtual machines. In addition, it can signify a Web hosting service where more than one Web server with the same address is hosted in one discrete physical machine. To make things even more complicated, virtual servers can refer to a method of port forwarding that is used by routers within the same building to redirect networking requests.
