Web Server
A Web server can be defined as a computer program that
receives requests for Internet pages from Web surfers. The software
then sends the responses back with the data and linked images. There
are several different software programs that function as Web servers.
A Web server can also be defined as a computer that runs the software
to send Internet pages to users. The size of the computer that sends
the pages out depends upon the number of requests received. The software
can determine how many requests are received each day.
For a small Web operation a small Web server (hardware) is all that
is necessary. However, larger corporations will need a larger server.
In fact, many have multiple servers to accommodate all the Web page
requests they receive.
